How to create your own image contest.

 

Drive fan engagement on your Facebook Page and go viral with Build's Image Upload Contest application. 

Contestants can enter the competition by uploading a photo or fans can simply vote on their favorite, without entering the competition. The voting aspect provides an option to create a story on the timeline ensuring that your contest goes viral.

STEP 1: LANDING PAGE AND PHOTO GALLERY

This is the landing page for your application and will showcase all photos uploaded by contestants.

  • Filters: Photos in the gallery can be sorted by either the most recent (latest content) or by the most popular (by number of votes).
  • Buttons: These filter labels can be styled and re-named as you wish.
  • Grid (photo gallery): The photos will by default be placed in the grid area which is fixed. Styling possibilities available allowing you to set the Image background color - the border around images. You can also style the text reflecting name of the contestant.
  • Background: For custom backgrounds, we recommend using an image at least 1580 pixels high and exactly 810px wide.

 

STEP 2: PHOTO UPLOAD

Choose your input fields (the contestant data you want to capture), and provide a placeholder for contestants to get a preview of their uploaded image.

 

STEP 3: SUCCESS PAGE

Confirm that contestants are successfully entered in the competition for a chance to win the prize. Perhaps you also want to take the opportunity to ask contestants to tell their friends about the competition and ask them for votes. 

 

FAQs

Q: Can I pre-approve uploaded images?

Yes. Under the General tab, de-select 'Automatic publish images uploaded'. Then, within the Admin tab you will be able to approve uploaded images before they are published in the gallery of the app.

Q: Can I remove inappropriate pictures? 

Yes. Under the General tab, select Admin to navigate to an administrative panel where you can view all photos and remove inappropriate content.

At any time you can retrieved removed content and select view image to add it back to the gallery.

Note - make of note of this point in the Terms and Conditions of your competition, so that contestants understand that content in violation of your policy or house rules will be removed. 

Q: Can I move the grid/gallery? 

It is not possible to change the grid/gallery. You should create your background with a height of 1600 pixels. The application will display 15 user submitted images per page.

Q: Why is the gallery empty when I launch the competition? 

By default, the landing view of your tab will be the gallery. Your gallery will be empty until the first contestant uploads a photo. Therefore, we advise that you upload some photos at the start of the competition to inspire contestants.

To comply with the terms of your competition, you can remove these later when the competition has gathered momentum and lots of photos.

Q: How can I choose a winner? 

In the Admin panel (available from the General tab), you can view entries by the most popular and select your winning photo based on the number of votes it has received.

Q: Can I retrieve the images later? 

Yes. When you download the contestant information, the csv file contains the image URL. You can also save individual images via the Admin tab. Download contestant information from General > Contestants.

Q: What is the maximum file size for uploaded photos? 

Maximum file size for photos uploaded by contestants is 10MB. Contestants will receive an error message advising them to upload a photo less than 10MB in size to enter the competition.

Q: Where does the description under the photo come from? 

The description for the photo is the contestant's name and is generated from the Name user input field on step 2 - photo upload. 

Note - DO NOT press Enter between sentences or words in the Description box, as doing so will disable the sharing option.
