Image, GIF, and video attachments guide


Make your media look great on any network.

Falcon supports a wide variety of media attachments for Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Tumblr, and LinkedIn. By following the file attachment guidelines for each social network, your media content will look and sound optimal on any device.

FACEBOOK

Images and GIFs
File type: JPG, JPEG, PNG, TIFF, GIF.
File size:
- Up to 25 MB, but we recommend up to 4 MB.
- Up to 1 MB for PNGs.
Recommended image size:
- Landscape image: 1200 x 628 pixels (1.91:1 aspect ratio).
- Portrait image: 1200 x 1800 pixels (2:3 aspect ratio).
- Square image: 1200 x 1200 pixels (1:1 aspect ratio).
- Story: 1080 x 1920 pixels (9:16 aspect ratio).

Facebook recommends uploading images up to 4 MB in size. For PNGs, they recommend up to 1 MB. All PNG files larger than 1 MB may look pixelated. When uploading images larger than 4000 x 4000 pixels and/or over 5 MB in size, Falcon adjusts the image automatically to prevent publishing issues. Facebook removes all location data from images.

Video
File type: 3g2, 3gp, 3gpp, x-ms-asf, x-msvideo, msvideo, avi, dat, divx, dv, f4v, x-flv, m2ts, x-m4v, x-matroska, mod, quicktime, mp4, mpe, mpeg, mpeg4, mpg, mts, nsv, ogm, ogv, qt, tod, MP2T, vob, wmv, x-ms-wmv.
File requirements:
- File size: up to 1GB.
- Duration: up to 120 minutes.
- Frame rate: 30 fps.
Recommended video size:
- Portrait video: 720 x 1200 pixels (9:16 aspect ratio).
- Landscape video: 1200 x 720 pixels (16:9 aspect ratio).

The Publish Editor preview supports mp4, mpeg4, ogv, and ogm. For other formats, Falcon does not show a preview, but your videos will get published without issue. Facebook renders video in 2:3 aspect ratio on Mobile devices.

Captions
File type: SRT.

A sample file for SubRip (SRT) captions can be found here. You can create multilingual captions by uploading multiple SubRip files for one video.

Video Thumbnails
File type: JPG, JPEG, PNG.
File requirements: File size: up to 1 MB.
Recommended image size: Same as video dimension.

 

INSTAGRAM

Images
File type: JPG, JPEG, PNG, BMP, and non-animated GIF.
File requirements:
- File size: up to 8 MB.
- Color profile: sRGB.
Recommended image size:
- Feed: 1080 pixels wide, height between 566 (1.91:1 aspect ratio) and 1350 pixels (4:5 aspect ratio).
- Story: 1080 x 1920 pixels (9:16 aspect ratio)

You can also upload images through our Hub mobile app by assigning a Publisher if you want to customize your image using Instagram filters. If the file does not meet the requirements, no worries, you can always crop it using our Photo Editor.


Videos
File type: MOV, MP4 (MPEG-4 Part 14).
File requirements:
- File size: up to 100 MB.
- Duration: between 3 and 60 seconds.
- Frame rate: 23 to 60 fps.
Advanced file requirements:
- Audio codec: AAC, 48khz sample rate maximum, 1 or 2 channels (mono or stereo).
- Video codec: HEVC or H264, progressive scan, closed GOP, 4:2:0 chroma subsampling.
- Picture size: Up to 1920 pixels wide in 4:5 or 16:9 aspect ratio.
- Bitrate: VBR, up to 5 Mbps.
Recommended video size:
- Square video: 600 x 600 pixels (1:1 aspect ratio)
- Landscape video: 600 x 315 pixels (1.9:1 aspect ratio)
- Portrait video: 600 x 750 pixels (4:5 aspect ratio)

TWITTER

Images
File type: JPG, JPEG, PNG, WEBP.
File requirements:
- File size: up to 5 MB.
- Minimum size: 600 x 335 pixels.
- Aspect ratio: anything between 2:1 and 1:1.
Recommended image size:
- Landscape image: 1200 pixels wide, with a height of 600 pixels (2:1 aspect ratio) or 800 pixels (3:2 aspect ratio). 1200 x 675 pixels (16:9 aspect ratio) is optimal for Mobile crops.
- Square image: 1200 x 1200 pixels (1:1 aspect ratio).

Twitter allows up to 4 images per tweet. After 1:1 aspect ratio (for example, 1200 X 1400) we’ll crop to a 1:1 aspect ratio.


GIFs
File type: animated GIF.
File requirements:
- File size: up to 3 MB.
- Minimum size: 600 x 335 pixels.
- Aspect ratio: anything between 2:1 and 1:1.
- Frame rate: up to 350 fps.
- Total pixels: up to 300 million (width x height x number of frames).
Recommended GIF size:
- Landscape image: 1200 pixels wide, with a height of 600 pixels (2:1 aspect ratio) or 800 pixels (3:2 aspect ratio). 1200 x 675 pixels (16:9 aspect ratio) is optimal for Mobile crops.
- Square image: 1200 x 1200 pixels (1:1 aspect ratio).

Twitter allows one GIF per tweet. This cannot be combined with other attachments such as images. After 1:1 aspect ratio (for example, 1200 X 1400) we’ll crop to a 1:1 aspect ratio.

Videos
File type: MP4, MOV, Quicktime, X-M4V.
File requirements:
- File size: up to 512 MB.
- Aspect ratio: 1:2.39 to 2.39:1
- Dimension: 32 x 32 and 1280 x 1024 pixels.
- Frame rate: 30 or 60 fps.
- Duration: 0.5 to 140 seconds.
Advanced file requirements:
- Pixel format: YUV 4:2:0.
- Video codec: H264 High Profile.
- Audio codec: AAC LC, mono or stereo.
- Video bitrate: min. 5,000 kbps.
- Audio bitrate: min. 128 kbps.
- Coding: no open GOP, and must use Progressive Scan.
- Pixel aspect ratio: 1:1.
Recommended video size:
- Portrait video: 240 x 240 pixels (256K bitrate), 480 x 480 pixels (768K bitrate) and 640 x 640 pixels (1024K bitrate).
- Landscape video: 320 x 180 pixels (256K bitrate), 640 x 360 pixels (768K bitrate) and 1280 x 720 pixels (2048K bitrate).

The Publish Editor preview supports MP4 files. For other formats, Falcon does not show a preview, but your videos will get published without issue.

 

LINKEDIN

Images
File type: JPG, JPEG, PNG.
File requirements:
- File size: up to 10 MB.
Recommended image size: 1104 x 736 pixels (3:2 aspect ratio).

 

TUMBLR

Images
File type: JPG, JPEG, PNG, TIFF, GIF.
File requirements:
- File size: up to 10 MB.

 

Note: Falcon does not have restrictions to files you upload to the content pool. Once you use the media for a specific channel, Falcon checks for compatibility with that network’s requirements. The only limitation is that the maximum accepted file size when creating stock is 1 gb per video and 25 mb per image.
